Buying a Home Doesn't Have to Be Stressful

Buying a new home can be stressful, especially if you have never purchased a home before.

With so many options to consider it can be hard to know what will be the perfect community and home for you and your family.

We asked a top Calgary real estate agent what tips they would give a first time buyer:

1. Get Pre-Approved. Being pre-qualified and knowing exactly how much you can afford before you start looking will make the experience much less stressful. That way, you will only look at homes you know you can afford so you won't fall in love with a home that you couldn't afford. Also, it gives you the power to put in an offer right away if you find a house you know is perfect.

2. Know Your Must Haves. Everyone has things they would love to have in their new home, but it's important to know what you must have to make a home functional. Create a list of "Must Haves" and "Nice to Haves." The list will come in handy when viewing homes so you don't buy a home that has nice features but is missing what you really needed.

3. Ask QuestionsMany first-time buyers are hesitant to ask questions because they don’t want to be embarrassed if they’re not familiar with certain terminology. Buying a home is the biggest purchase most people will ever make. Don't miss out on an important detail because you were afraid to ask a question. Also, if you ask your home builder a question and they make you feel bad for asking they might not be the right builder for you.
